The shootings of police in Dallas and Baton Rouge remind us of how dangerous of a job it is to be a police officer. The fact that the shooters tried to tie their terrorist attacks to some type of moral outrage at police brutality makes it even worse. There is no justification for killing innocent people. The officers who were killed and injured did nothing more than put on their uniforms and go out to do their duties.

If, in any way, you feel that these shootings were the least bit justifiable, you are wrong. As outraged as I get when one police officer abuses power, I feel the same when some moron decides that all officers deserve to die. Life is precious, and there is no difference between killing someone because of the color of their skin, their religion, or the fact they are wearing a uniform. If you intentionally kill someone for any reason other than self-defense, or the defense of another, you are committing murder (for the record, soldiers at war fall under the category of self-defense and defense of others).

So, now, I want to remember those police officers who have given their lives, not just in Dallas and Baton Rouge, but throughout the United States. Please take a few minutes and visit the Officer Down Memorial Page to honor the names of those who have given their lives in the service of us.
